• Detailed information for over 40 materials found in commonly used products.

• Interactive material selection charts which show material properties in a visually intuitive manner. They allow selection of suitable materials as well as providing a rapid comparison of properties between different materials. Steel

MATTER and the Corus Group (formerly British Steel) have developed a WWW site for ferrous metallurgy. Resources of particulary interest to engineers include:

• Hot rolling of strip steel, effect on microstructure and inclusions and control of grain size.
• Underlying metallurgical principles of ferrous metallurgy including strength, toughness, use of phase diagram, cooling curves and Jominy hardness test.

Micrographs

• The internet microscope at the Manchester Materials Science Centre provides some interesting micrographs of many different materials.

Materials (general)

• The UK National Science Museum have a WWW site on the Challenge of Materials.
